VaporSmartz paired with Iron Fist Extractor Closed Loop System

The VaporSMARTZ iQ150 Solvent Transfer And Recovery pump is the most advanced technology from PDX.Gold and is a potent addition to any processing lab. This powerful system has the “smarts” to help keep your process on track and pairs perfectly with the industry’s leading hydrocarbon extraction systems by decreasing your recovery times and increasing your profits instantly.

Built for the professional extractor, the recovery pump automatically shuts off when the output pressure exceeds designed limits - typically when the system is incorrectly configured (closed valves, etc.), cooling needs to be increased post recovery or when there is inadequate volume in the solvent recovery tank. The pump also shuts off when drawing excessive vacuum - typically when the system is incorrectly configured or when the cycle has ended and there's no more solvent to recover. The pump will also shut off if the drive motor draws an excessive amount of current - which may indicate contamination has affected the compressor. These features help the operator find and solve issues BEFORE they cause damage to the recovery pump or other parts of the extraction system – saving YOU time and money.

Our ergonomic design also provides a usable work surface at standard counter height within the extraction lab with no bending down to check gauges.

CycloneDry filter drier

Hydrocarbon Extraction Water Removal Equipment

CycloneDry - filter drier
CycloneDry-Family-heights.jpg
CycloneDry-Anchor-1

The CycloneDry condenses water vapor into liquid water and traps it, leaving clean, dry solvent to pass through the pump. The CycloneDry can be used whether your pump is oil sealed or is a dry piston pump; it can be retrofit to any recovery pump and it’s built to last. It traps and removes water in two ways:

1) Water vapor is condensed into liquid in the stainless-steel housing using cyclonic action.

2) A desiccant filter absorbs water vapor and allows the solvent to pass through

The desiccant filter can be baked out in a vacuum oven and reused over and over.

If you don’t use a CycloneDry with your hydrocarbon extraction equipment you may get water contamination in your extraction process. All plant material has water that will transfer to the process solvent; fresh, frozen and other green material will be heavily laden with water. Liquid water will ruin your recovery pump. That water will move through your process and cause issues at every turn. That’s why at PDX.Gold we strongly advise that if you’re using a hydrocarbon extraction process you should couple it with a CycloneDry to ensure the water vapor is condensed, trapped and leaves the solvent clean and dry.

What is Hydrocarbon Extraction, and How Does it Work?

Have you ever bought cannabis-based products and saw something about hydrocarbon extraction, leading you to wonder about what hydrocarbon extraction actually entails? Below, you’ll learn about hydrocarbon extraction and how it helps you deliver your best products.

What is Hydrocarbon Extraction?

Hydrocarbon extraction is one of the primary methods of extracting cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD from the cannabis plant. This process uses hydrocarbons, such as propane and butane, as an organic solvent to do the extraction, thus leaving a clean, concentrated product at the end of the process.

The concentrate can then be used to create varying kinds of cannabis-based products, including cannabis oils, glass, hash, dog treats, wax, vape oils, and edibles like gummies and chocolates.

Hydrocarbons are ideal for extraction, as they dissolve the desired compounds from the cannabis plant, while leaving behind undesired compounds. In other words, not only do you get a concentrated compound, but importantly, you get one that is clean and free of impurities.

How Does the Hydrocarbon Extraction Process Work?

They hydrocarbon extraction process involves solvents that washes the plant material with butane, propane or a blend of the two. The cannabis plant is placed into Hydrocarbon Extraction Equipment and exposed to hydrocarbon in liquid-gas form, thus releasing the cannabinoids CBD, THC, and terpenes  that provide the aroma and flavor.

One of the benefits of working with a hydrocarbon, such as butane, is its very low boiling point, which is approximately 30°F. As the cannabis plant is temperature sensitive, it allows for concentrate extraction without exposing the plant to excessive heat. Washing the plant material dissolves the cannabis and terpenes slowly and leaves behind any unwanted compounds.

As the first extraction might still contain other elements, such as lipids and waxes, the second phase of refinement is often used, which removes terpenes and lipids that are not required. The hydrocarbons are then removed leaving the final product.

What are the Benefits of Hydrocarbon Extraction?

There are several benefits of hydrocarbon extraction leading to its popularity. Below are common benefits:

  • Maintains product’s uniqueness - Each strain of cannabis has its own unique identity, with different chemical elements offering unique characteristics. With some other forms of extraction, interference of these chemical elements can occur taking away the individual strand’s characteristics. With hydrocarbon extraction, this is not the case as it maintains much more of the original makeup of the product.

  • Flavor and aroma preservation– Preservation of the plant’s flavor, aroma, terpenes, and flavonoids occurs due to hydrocarbon extraction. And, any unwanted compounds, such as chlorophyll, are not extracted.

  • Safety – Hydrocarbon extraction equipment operates at low pressures not exceeding 150 lbs per square inch, which makes it a safe process versus other higher-pressure techniques.

  • Efficiency and high yields – Hydrocarbon extraction has lower cycle times as compared to other types of extraction, which greater efficiency and higher yields.

  • Versatility – With hydrocarbon extraction, a wide variety of products can be extracted.

Hydrocarbon Professionalism is Key & Risk is Low

Hydrocarbon extraction can become flammable due to propane and butane. However, if the extractions are professionally carried out using the proper essential oil extraction equipment, then the risks are extremely low.

Another consideration is ensuring that the procedure is done correctly. Doing so, the desired product will be produced. Therefore, the hydrocarbon extraction needs to be done professionally and with the right hydrocarbon extraction equipment.
